Thank you for your interest in the St. Damien DeVeuster Pilgrimage on the Big Island of Hawaii.
PLEASE read "A Pilgrim's Journal" linked to the website: www.saintdamiendeveusterpilgrimage.com.
This is an arduous journey, and I was totally instructed to visit the little churches as shown on the webpage map. This is not a group event. This is a perpetual, individual and pilgrimage. It is available to anyone, anytime, forever.
Parishioners of the little churches along the route are not accustomed to hosting pilgrims as yet. Perhaps, as the pilgrimage gains popularity, a pilgrim will be able to find rooms in the villages surrounding the little churches. Still, for now, except in the City of Hilo, where rooms are plentiful, the pilgrim is advised to carry a tent and gear in the likelihood of sleeping afield.
Food is available from several small convenience stores in the more remote areas. There is plenty of food in the towns, of course.
The journey might be made by a couple of pilgrims together though this would complicate sheltering and add exposure while walking along roadsides.
For the retreat, the pilgrimage is best made alone. Companionship interferes with prayer and mediation.
Drinking water and an umbrella are indispensable.
This is a trek 80 miles in length.
Be fit.
Pack very lightly.
Rise each morning and walk.
